Therapy for Couples

Romantic relationships, marriages and partnerships are often at the centre of our world, but they can be challenging to maintain. The pressures of work, finances and having children can put a strain on relationships and sometimes things can seem hopeless.

You might be unsure whether you want to continue in a relationship and feel like this is making you unhappy. Maybe you've committed to making things work with your partner but you're not sure how to do things differently. Perhaps you're worried that there is something "wrong" with you or your partner and think that speaking to a professional might help.

Couples therapy often allows couples to understand themselves and each other more effectively, bringing happiness and compassion back into the relationship. Sometimes couples therapy provides a forum for changes or decisions to be made in a contained and safe environment.

The work I can provide for couples is informed by a psychological understanding of attachment models, and by emotionally focused therapy principles (EFT).

I also have experience of working with individuals who have separated, perhaps after significant, sometimes abusive relationships. Sometimes people want support to manage their relationship with an ex-partner. Other people want to be able to work out a more productive co-parenting arrangement. Maybe you want to think about what you contributed to a relationship breaking down, or why you've made the relationships choices you have in the past. Maybe it's time to break that cycle, but you're just not sure how.

Please get in touch if you would like to arrange to meet me to discuss couples therapy.
